Merlin Terrill (deceased)
The “Visionary” who started
this family business

A fifty plus year veteran in the field of insurance and financial planning, Merlin earned a B.A. degree in Insurance from Michigan State University’s School of Business.  He earned his Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant designations from the American College.

In addition to being a Licensed Financial Professional, Merlin was a member of the International Association for Financial Planning, the Lake Michigan Estate Planning Council and the Western Michigan Estate Planning Council, in which he had served as Director.

Mr. Terrill was a member and past president of the Western Michigan Association of Life Underwriters and was an associate member of the Grand Rapids Association of Life Underwriters, from which he was a recipient of the 1981 Distinguished Service Award.  He was also past president of the Western Michigan Chapter of Chartered Life underwriters and Chartered Financial consultants, as well as past president of the Grand Rapids General Agents and Managers Association.

Merlin was the recipient of the “Young Man of the Year” Distinguished Service Award from the Grand Haven Area Jaycees in 1962.  He was a past president of that organization, as well as the Grand Haven Aviation Club and Magicians Guild of Michigan.  He had served as Chairman of Michigan State University’s President’s Club and Development Council. As a resident of the West Michigan area for more than sixty years, along with his wife, Norma, has three children, five step-children and seventeen grandchildren.  In addition to the fact that his son, Guy, has followed him into the financial services profession, they were joined by daughter-in-law, Alishia Terrill, in the firm of Terrill Financial Group, LLC.

Guy Terrill
The “Next Generation” of this family business

Guy Terrill was born in 1958.  Raised in Grand Haven, Michigan, Guy graduated in the top 10% of his class at Grand Haven High School in June 1977.  Guy then graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Finance & Insurance from Michigan State University in June 1982, when he joined his father’s agency with Union Mutual as a Career Agent. In 1983 he was awarded “Rookie of the Year” award from Union Mutual Life Insurance Company.  He qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table for the first time in 1984.

In 1995 Guy and his father formed Terrill & Terrill when they represented various companies (Union Central, Jackson National, Alexander Hamilton, UNUM).  In 1995 Guy also joined Ohio National Life as a Career Agent and has since qualified for Council of Honor five times and Wall of Fame three times.

During his 30+ years in the financial services business Guy has qualified for MDRT 10 times and received the CLU designation from The American College in October 2003.  Guy’s expertise is in the Estate Planning, Life Insurance Planning and Fixed annuities area, and he is licensed in Michigan, North Carolina, Florida and Texas.

Alishia Terrill
The woman who guides the business
forward into the future

Born in 1963 in the metro Detroit area, Alishia was raised with her five siblings in Madison Heights, Michigan.  After attending one year of community college studying criminal law and psychology, Alishia married her high school sweetheart at 19 years old.  She left Michigan with her husband who joined the United States Navy and was stationed at the Naval Training Center in Orlando, Florida.  Having spent the following three years in Jacksonville, Florida, then moving to the Philadelphia area, Alishia entered the legal field as a legal assistant.  Her nine years as a legal assistant with the prestigious law firms of Duane, Morris & Heckscher and Pepper, Hamilton & Scheetz, included areas such as insurance law, criminal law, intellectual property, probate & estate law, as well as medical malpractice and litigation.

Alishia began her financial services career in 1997 as an administrative assistant to the Head of the Securities Division of Sam Swanson & Associates out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Her duties required her to become a registered representative which allowed her to have close contact with both clients and mutual fund company representatives.  After two and a half years, Alishia decided to go into the field as an independent producer. She joined her husband, Guy, and father-in-law, Merlin, when they formed Terrill Financial Group, LLC in 2000.

As Alishia had experience in the securities area, she devoted her time and studies and obtained her Series 7 Registration in May 2001, which allows her to offer General Securities products.  Alishia first qualified for Million Dollar Roundtable MDRT in 2007 and has again qualified in 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2011.  Alishia is currently studying for her CFP through the College for Financial Planning.  Alishia is licensed in Michigan, Illinois, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Oregon.
